三 (three)

Here I am for my third trip to China. I won’t go into too much detail about the flight except let me say, “Thank you United.” Why, you ask? For both my flight from Philly to Chicago, and then my flight from Chicago to Hong Kong, I had not one, but two empty seats to my left! It’s almost impossible to imagine, with both flights being declared as full. I couldn’t believe my luck. Let me tell you, if you have to be on a plane for 16hrs straight, it makes it a lot more comfortable if you aren’t rubbing shoulders with a complete stranger. I even caught a few Z’s on this flight.

I’m in the third seat. These are the two seats next to me.

Every one asks me how long the flight to China is. The short answer is, “Looong.” But it’s not just the flight that makes the journey tiring. Granted the flight is lengthy, but it’s all the other time you spend traveling in addition to the flight that really exhausts you.

I left my house at 5:45am, January 5th and arrived in China 5:30am of the next day. It’s basically a 24 hour journey with the largest leg being a 15 ½ hr flight. But it’s one of the few places I’ve found you can really feel out of your element. And that makes it worth it.
